Controversial Judgments on the Firdusi Case: Attorneys Raise Concerns

On April 11, Genya Petrosyan and Davit Gyurjyan, lawyers from the Law Development and Protection Foundation, together with Ruben Atoyan, a resident of the Firdusi district, participated in a press conference entitled “Controversial Judgments on the Firdusi Case: Attorneys Raise Concerns.” Petrosyan and Gyurjyan act as legal representatives for Ruben Atoyan and other residents of the districts before various court instances and law enforcement agencies. During the conference, the speakers adressed the problematic aspects of the property alienation in the Firdusi district. Genya Petrosyan discussed the contradictory decisions of the courts and non-unified practice, which resulted in the inability to protect the property rights of the citizens and the violation of their right to a fair trial. Meanwhile, Davit Gyurjyan focused on the initiated criminal cases based on facts speaking about the illegality of land alienation and numerous violations committed by concerted actions in the assessment process.

Petrosyan Discusses Compulsory Enforcement and Challenging Regulatory Acts on "Your Attorney"

Genya Petrosyan, director of the LDPF, sat down with Narine Solomonyan, host of the “Your Attorney” program to discuss the issues of administrative procedure and compulsory enforcement of judicial acts. The problems discussed were identified as part of the study carried out by the LDPF, which also proposed respective solutions. Petrosyan touched upon the solution to the problem of disproportionality of enforcement costs, the order of the distribution of confiscated funds, confiscation of non-inherited property, the real beneficiary of the debtor, and the protection of the rights of minors in this context

Press Conference titled "Human rights behind Bars: Inhuman Conditions in Nubarashen Penitentiary" held at the Media Centre

Davit Gyurjyan, a legal expert from the Law Development and Protection Foundation, participated in the press conference on the issues of penitentiaries held at the Media Centre. Apart from Gyurjyan, the press conference featured the following speakers: Nina Karapetyants, president of the "Helsinky Association" NGO, and Ani Chatinyan, an attorney at the NGO Helsinki Citizens' Assembly-Vanadzor. The press conference was arranged on the occasion of urgent problems in the Nubarashen penitentiary, reported by some detainees. According to Gyurjyan, the vast majority of the problems are systemic.

The special report “Why are there no Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh” was published on July 1, within the framework of the Democracy Forum Armenia. The report was jointly prepared by Freedom House, International Partnership for Human Rights, Democracy Development Foundation, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, Protection of Rights without Borders NGO, Law Development and Protection Foundation, and Truth Hounds. The panel discussion devoted to the report featured speakers from the organisations mentioned above. Genya Petrosyan spoke on behalf of the Law Development and Protection Foundation. She ttouched upon the human rights violations of Nagorno Karabakh population, particularly those concerning the right to an adequate standard of living.
