Pilot training on the Abuse of State Resources

On 20-21 February, the Law Development and Protection Foundation (LDPF) and IFES conducted a pilot training session on the abuse of state resources.

The trainers included project experts Genya Petrosyan, Natalya Adamyan, Davit Gyurjyan, and Sergey Grigoryan.

This training, developed as part of an informational campaign for the upcoming elections, aims to strengthen public servants' understanding of key rules and promote impartial conduct during elections.

Representatives from the Unified Social Service and Yerevan Municipality participated in the pilot exercise.

This initiative was made possible by the support of UK International Development from the UK Government through the Supporting Safeguards of Democracy in Armenia (SSDA) project implemented by IFES.

On December 4 the LDPF participated in the International Conference titled “Human Rights Research in Armenia: Current and Emerging Issues” organized by the American University of Armenia and Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. During the conference e held a panel session on the effectiveness of legal mechanisms for the protection of victims of domestic violence.  Currently, the LDPF is studying the judicial cases regarding the application of immediate intervention measures with the aim to reveal the legislative and law enforcement issues that lead to the termination of these measures for perpetrators by the courts.

On 19 December the Law Development and Protection Foundation held the conference on the topic “Secret Surveillance Measures: International Good Practice and Standards Set by the ECHR, Issues of Armenian Legislation.” The aim of the conference was to sum up the findings revealed in the framework of the project titled “Analysis of the Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights finding Violation of Article 8 of the ECHR” and outline the possible solutions.

The Issues of Judicial Scrutiny and External Independent Control over Secret Surveillance Measures were discussed

On December 1 the Law Development and Protection Foundation held a discussion on the topic “The Issues of Judicial Scrutiny and External Independent Control over Secret Surveillance Measures.” The scope of judicial scrutiny in authorisation of secret surveillance measures, the content of authorisations, and the urgent procedure were in the limelight of the discussion. In addition to that, the international good practice and trends, as well as issues pertaining to external control in the Armenian context were presented.
